Our take
The simplest cash-back card going: one flat rate on everything you buy, a $200 bonus for $500 of ordinary spending, and no annual fee — nothing to optimize, nothing to remember. Before you apply, use Capital One's pre-approval check: it shows whether you'll be approved with no impact to your credit score, so looking costs you nothing. Want a higher flat rate instead? The Citi Double Cash pays 2% but has no 0% intro APR on purchases and charges foreign transaction fees — Quicksilver is the better all-rounder, especially for travel.

How to stack it
Time the application with a big planned expense (insurance, tuition, a trip) so the spend requirement is money you'd spend anyway.
Shop through a cashback portal and the card's own offers (Chase Offers, Amex Offers, Capital One Offers) while meeting the spend — the bonus stacks on top of normal earning.
Set a calendar reminder for the end of the spend window and another before the first annual fee posts.

Common questions
How do I get the $200 bonus?
Spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Capital One credits the bonus to your rewards balance, and you can redeem it for any amount.
Answered by StackTheDealCan checking my approval hurt my credit score?
No. Capital One's pre-approval tool uses a soft check, so you can see whether you're likely to be approved before you apply — your score is only affected if you go ahead with a full application.
Answered by StackTheDealIs 1.5% back good?
It's the classic flat rate: simple and unlimited. A 2% card pays slightly more on plain spending, but Quicksilver adds a 15-month 0% intro APR and no foreign transaction fees, which the best-known 2% card doesn't match.
Answered by StackTheDealWho can't get the bonus?
If you've received a new-cardmember bonus for the Quicksilver in the past 48 months, you're not eligible for another one. Existing Capital One cards don't block you.
Answered by StackTheDealDoes the cash back expire?
No. Rewards stay valid for the life of the account, and there's no minimum amount to redeem.
The easiest premium card to justify: $300 travel credit + 10,000 anniversary miles ≈ $400 back on a $395 fee, so you're holding a lounge card for about nothing.
This is unusually generous for a $95 card — the $300 credit is on top of the normal 75k, so you're looking at a four-figure first year for a sub-$100 fee.
