$400Chase's offer, as shown on Chase's own site (Oct 8, 2026)Chase Total Checking: $400 for one $1,000 direct deposit
Open Total Checking online and get $1,000 or more in direct deposits within 90 days — that is the whole job.
Our take
The gold standard of checking bonuses just went from $300 to $400 — and the requirement is a single $1,000 direct deposit, which one paycheck covers. Keep the account 6 months (Chase claws back if you close early), set up a $500 direct deposit to dodge the fee, done. Chase also lets you stack a savings bonus if you open both.
What you have to do
- Open online with the offer code (applied automatically on Chase's offer page) or email yourself the code and open in a branch
- Make direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more within 90 days of enrollment

- New Chase checking customers only; offer expires January 27, 2027
Fees to avoid

Common questions
Does a transfer from my other bank count as the direct deposit?
No. Chase only counts an electronic deposit of a paycheck, pension or government benefits from an employer or the government. Transfers from another bank, Zelle, PayPal and Venmo are specifically excluded in the offer terms.
Answered by StackTheDealHow long after my $1,000 lands does the $400 show up?
Chase says within 15 days of completing the requirement. People usually see it post about 10 to 15 days after the qualifying deposit, labeled as a bonus credit.
Answered by StackTheDealCan I close the account once I have the bonus?
Chase's terms say the bonus is reported as interest and will be deducted at closing if you close the account within 6 months of opening. Keep it open at least 6 months, then close if you want.
Answered by StackTheDealI had a Chase checking account years ago. Am I still eligible?
You're eligible if you haven't had a Chase checking account closed in the last 90 days or closed with a negative balance in the last 3 years, and you haven't gotten a Chase checking bonus in the last 2 years. Business checking and credit cards don't affect this.
Answered by StackTheDealIs the $400 taxable?
Yes. Chase reports checking bonuses as interest on a 1099-INT, so it's ordinary income on your tax return.
Answered by StackTheDealDoes opening this affect my credit score or 5/24?
No. Chase does a soft pull for checking accounts, and bank accounts don't count toward Chase's 5/24 rule for credit cards.
